The Criminal Justice System
I chose to highlight the pitfalls and shortcomings of the criminal justice system. My topics ranged from slavery to Jim Crow, the 5th and 14th amendments, Emmitt Till, the Tulsa Massacre, the war on drugs and the Nixon era, private prisons, solitary confinement, faulty forensic science, etc. Attached I have the first paragraph and my thesis statement, and a rough outline of some of the topics I’ll be covering. Also, a handful of citations to be used; add whatever you like, just make sure to use the 8 provided. I thought I’d like the first few pages to be organized as somewhat of a timeline, beginning with the constitution and ending with the random facts about prisons, solitary, etc. I used Adam Ruins Everythings’ Criminal Justice segments for many of the random facts and found the sources online. If you need to watch them they can be found on youtube. Lastly, the assignment is 6-8 pages. If you can accumulate your thoughts well within the 6-page minimum feel free to end there. However, it’s a vast topic. I believe he’s looking for 7, I’m unsure. It’s very vague to assign an essay with a 6-8 page minimum. Actually I just realized I messed something up on my first paragraph and the thesis statement was deleted and smushed into the second paragraph and I can’t remember what I’d written. Sorry.
