For this case, I would like to choose one of the Ethical Challenge that arose as a result of social cause and partnering with a nonprofit organization:

For this case study, let us consider the organization that has a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team who liaisons with various nonprofit organizations in order to explore how the organization can exhibit their social responsibility and contributes towards the society. one such proposal comes from one of the team members is to tie up with an NGO who provide used Personal Computers to physically challenged students of that school. Apparently, the team member knows there are several computers in their organization that has crossed the expiry date; however, the performance of the machine is still good. Hence they’ve been using this. Since this initiative of CSR is spoken now and there is an opportunity, he has proposed the idea of providing all the used computers to the NGO and procures new machines to the organization. This proposal is accepted by the management team and he was advised to go for the stock check and further proceedings on this. In the interim, the team member’s supervisor discovers that the team member’s uncle is running the NGO and hence, he has suggested partnering with them and moving the used machines to them. Also when the supervisor cross verifies the stock details and other procurement agreement details with the local IT department, he finds that cost of procuring new machines are 3 times larger than the cost of exchanging them with the old used machines. Hence this is a clear case of the dilemma on how to proceed further. The team member when presented this opportunity did not mention that he identified this NGO through his uncle as he is working there which has raised the doubt for the supervisor. The perspective of both the supervisor and the team member are different. This is clearly an Ethical Challenge for the manager of the department to proceed further as the communication about this has already been sent out to the NGO.

Consequences of this Ethical Challenge:

• Almost all the times, as a matured human being, we know the differences between what is right and what is wrong and most of the ethical issues can be avoided easily…
• Just by using our common sense and to ensure treat others with dignity, respect and enable trustfulness and be a trustworthy honest human.
• In this case, if they proceed with the proposal of the team member, the organization is likely getting into a conflict if the truth behind the motive of the team member is exposed.
• Including the team member, rest of the stakeholders is likely to be harmed and it affects the brand reputation of the company.
• The potential consequences of engaging in such unethical behavior are Legal Issues for the overall business, Employee Morale and Performance Impact, Employee Relations, Organizations credibility, Future prevention of such unethical behavior, Customer disorientation, Brand Reputation, Harms Productivity and interruption to the overall supply chain etc.,
• Hence knowing that the organization is likely to get into these consequences and that supervisor has found two clear conflicts of interest, in this case, management team need to review before confirming the NGO about the proposal.
