A good leader should posses’ right leadership traits. Motivation is an example of right leadership trait. Motivation means making an individual work towards achieving his goals. Influencing means producing an effect on someone or modifying a person or a group through some means. Influencing is very important for a leader to be a motivator. A leader cannot motivate if he is not able to influence his followers. When influencing changes a person according to his objectives, motivation helps to move forward and achieve the same. Good leader should be always open minded and understand the different needs of his followers. The leader should be able to influence the follower to hard work for achieving the objectives that will bring good to the follower as well as the organization. Appreciation and rewards are common methods of motivation. Awarding with small gifts, certificate or even a good word from a leader can act as a source of motivation. A leader act as a role model for the followers and the leader should set a good example to influence the followers to grow towards the goals set. Hence the successful leaders are regarded as influencers and motivators.
It is important for leaders to be visionaries to see the future and plan to achieve those long term goals. Leaders should not only set the goals but also should achieve those goals.
