Fieldwork Proposal assignment: For this assignment, you will write a proposal to the observation of a location of your choosing. The paper should contain the following sections in the order listed:
Note: You are only proposing a fieldwork project; you are not conducting an observation. Page range: 7-10 pages.
Introduction: write at least one paragraph introducing the concept of interest and the location to be observed and why it fits the concept. Discuss the importance of addressing the concept. State the main purpose of your fieldwork project.
Review of the Literature: read and discuss at least 3 peer-reviewed articles (maybe be either theoretical or ethnographic), with a discussion of selected themes/ issues in the ethnography, and relevant aspects of the history, economy, and languages of the region/ field where the study will be conducted.
Questions and Contribution: write an outline of at least 5 questions to be addressed and the expected contribution of the study to the understanding of the concept you chose to address.
Methodological Discussion: discuss practical and ethical issues affecting the conduct of the research
Timetable and Budget Plan: outline the timeframe the project will take you to complete as well as budget considerations.

Important Requirements
Your fieldwork proposal should address, briefly or in detail as appropriate, all of the following five issues:
History: discuss the historiographical issues relating to the area, people, and/or institutions you intend to observe. How much is known of the history? How much is contested, by whom, and in what ways?
Language: Specify the languages with which you will have to work. Are different languages used by different people or for different purposes? How and why might attention to language be relevant to your research? How will you negotiate the use of different languages in your research?
Framework: discuss what frameworks are relevant and how. Frameworks may be culture, traditions, movements, or trends.
Methods, techniques, and ethics: discuss the principle methods and techniques you expect to use in your research, together with practical and ethical issues relating to these.
