Essay – ”Critically evaluate culturally responsive approaches for working with children

In short the essay is about students researching the culturally responsive approaches [or strategies or methods] which are in turn championed by an author or authors. For example, I have just googled the term and a website that came up is https://www.understood.org/en/school-learning/for-educators/universal-design-for-learning/what-is-culturally-responsive-teaching – if you use this in your essay then you would critically analyse the content listed. It is not specifically focused on Indigenous Australia but does make reference to African Americans and there may be some transferability -which is what you would comment on. Whilst the library guide states it is usually one text – the key word there is usually – but in this case you are looking at a minimum of 5 sources. In terms of the writer’s approach/conclusions – I would be looking into whether for example, the author is a person of colour or what experience has the author had – has it been varied or limited to one context? Are the conclusions practical for the classroom, the school or the system?

Is there more to the issue of being ’culturally responsive’? ’working with children, families and communities’ and ’in a school context’ – What do you mean when you use the term ’communities’? Does the meaning change in the context of Indigenous Australia? Does the term family/ies differ in different contexts? How do schools and teachers work with families and communities? What school contexts are there?
