Assignment Overview

This is a group assignment (Your instructor will create the groups—of four people). For a given data set, you and your group will create a Shewart Control Chart and a CUSUM Control Chart. Your group will then discuss the pros and cons of each type of chart, choose the best chart type for this data, and record/defend your answers. Your group will also be responsible for determining whether the given data signals an out of control process and on what day. If your customer’s specifications require a product with an average result of 100 +/- 25, calculate the process capability of this process. Use the process check results to calculate your control chart limits and process capability.

Assignment Grading

This assignment counts for 10% of your final course grade. It is graded according to this rubric.

Assignment Instructions

Set up up a virtual introduction meeting with your group.
Download a copy of the data here.
In your group, review the data and (using a fair distribution of work) create a Shewhart Control Chart and a CUSUM Control Chart based on it. Your charts should be created in such a format that they can be imported into a Microsoft Word document (i.e. an image, Microsoft Excel chart).
After creating these charts, discuss the pros and cons of each and choose the best one for this type of data. Record your lists of pros and cons and defense for why your chosen chart is the best on the same Microsoft Word document.
Next, determine whether the given data signals an out of control process and calculate the process capability (given the customer specification in the above overview. Record, using references to course readings where necessary, your determination and calculation on the same Microsoft Word document.
When your group is ready to submit the document, ensure that you review its components against its grading rubric.
To submit your document (each group member must submit a copy), click on the Add submission button at the bottom of this screen.
Either drag-and-drop your Microsoft Word file into the indicated area or click on the Add… option and select the file you wish to submit. When you are ready, click on Save changes.
