Article Critique

To complete this project please refer to the guidelines below, and refer to the Article Critique Assignment Rubric for specific grading criteria.

· Select one article from the list on page 2. Locate the article through the library.

· Read the article in its entirety, to get an overview.

· Re-read the article with a critical eye, making notes as you evaluate the article (in your own words!).

· Introduction (1 paragraph): Include a statement of purpose for YOUR paper; the purpose or problem identified in the article you are critiquing; and the context in which the work was created. For example, what is the background on why the topic is being explored? What prompted the author to pursue this topic? Why is it important?

· Article Critique: Here, you will present your critique of the quality and reliability of the article. Include the following elements:

o Quality:

§ Is the title of the article appropriate and clear?

§ Is the purpose of the article made clear in the introduction?

§ Did the author achieve the intended purpose of the article?

§ Did the author build a logical argument? Does it make sense?

§ Does the article enhance understanding of the key ideas or theories?

o Reliability:

§ Is the article published in an academic journal or professional magazine? Does the publication appear reputable? Is it peer reviewed?

§ What are the author’s credentials? Affiliated with a health system, business, or university?

§ Is the work presented objectively or subjectively?

§ Does the author cite sources and make assertions based on evidence? What type of evidence was used?

§ Does the article enhance understanding of the key ideas or theories?

§ What are the strengths and weakness of the article?

· Conclusion: 1 paragraph; summarize the key points. Include a statement indicating the overall evaluation of the work.

· Length: 3-5 pages, written in APA style and format.
